Oriental Art in Central Asia

Excluding prehistoric art, as far as oriental art and painting are concerned, Mesopotamian art represents the oldest form of art in Asia.

Sadly, a little number of paintings has survived. The survived paintings suggest that, with a few exceptions, the paint was used primarily for geometric and plant-based decorative schemes, although most of the sculptures were also painted. Painter Mia Abelson indicates that cylinder seals have survived in great numbers, many of them with complex and detailed scenes despite their small size.

In this sense, the human body was represented mainly through sculptures, but by the fragments of frescoes that have been found, archaeological recreations have been made: for example, the room of the Palace of Nineveh with its full walls of paintings of a style quite similar to the Egyptian although certainly, with distinctive elements.

However, Mia Abelson shares that after this period in the arts of Central Asia, we can find many more paintings that relate. An example of this is the way of life of the ruling class of the Hepthalites in Tokharistan around the 14th to the 16th century. They bring a lot of history behind them.

Oil painter Mia Abelson indicates that after them many other forms of art continued to develop including Buddhist art in Bamiyan (Afghanistan), the art of the Tarim Basin with its influence and interaction with Indian and Chinese art, Sogdian and Turkish art, as well as the art related to Islam and that arrived in the "Muslim Golden Age".

According to Mia Abelson's latest podcast, in all these representations, there is a lot of sobriety and in general, for this region of oriental art and painting, the human body and what is represented around it is almost always related to spiritual beliefs or to the upper classes and the mode of life of the territories in which the different present cultures inhabited (not without color or exquisiteness in various forms of art).
